Advisory Boards and Commissions Accepting Applications

PRESS RELEASE: Hot Springs Accepting Applications for advisory boards and commissions

 

The City of Hot Springs will accept applications until 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019, for a total of twenty-four volunteer positions on various city advisory boards and commissions.

Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Hot Springs (unless otherwise specified). Board and commission members are appointed by the Board of Directors and meet in the Board Chambers at City Hall, 133 Convention Boulevard, unless otherwise specified.

The openings include the following:

Two openings for city residents on the Airport Advisory Committee. The Airport Advisory Commission advises the City Board of Directors on policy matters relating to the operation of the airport, proposals for development, airport area land use, leases, fees and safety concerns. The committee consists of five members and assists the airport director and city manager in the development and review of airport operating policies and procedures. Meetings are held at 12 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month.

Three openings for city residents on the Arts Advisory Committee whose responsibilities are to review and recommend placement of permanent art at publicly-owned facilities in the city; to assist in the organization and promotion of temporary art exhibits at publicly-owned facilities; and to assist in the securing of private grant funding and art donations for permanent art displays at public buildings in the city. The committee consists of nine members. Meetings are held at noon on the second Tuesday of each month in the Parks Conference Room at the City Hall Annex, 111 Opera Street.

Two openings for city residents on the Board of Adjustments & Appeals/Board of Zoning Adjustment. This five-member board hears appeals from the decision of the administrative officers in respect to the enforcement and application of various development codes, along with appeals and variance requests concerning the administration and application of the Zoning Code. Meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

Two openings for city residents on the Community Development Advisory Committee. One position is for a city resident residing in District 2 (Director Elaine Jones’ District). One position is for a city resident at-large. The committee evaluates and establishes operating policies and procedures for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and meets at 1 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month.

Two openings on the Parks and Trails Advisory Committee. This seven-member group provides guidance and oversight in the city’s parks and trails, including planning and policy development. Meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at the Parks and Trails Office, 111 Opera Street, Hot Springs, AR 71901.

Four openings and two alternate openings on the Planning Commission. This nine-member, two-alternate member group reviews all land development proposals within the city and subdivisions inside the city and within its adopted planning area to insure compliance with the Zoning and Subdivision Codes. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month.

Three openings for city residents on the Transportation Advisory Committee. This seven-member committee assists the Board of Directors and city staff in the establishment of policies for the city’s public transit system as well as public transportation issues of a general nature. Meetings are held as needed at the Transportation Depot.

Four openings for city residents on the Urban Forestry Committee. The purpose of this five-member committee is to promote, protect, and enhance the beauty, environmental benefits, and general welfare of the Hot Springs urban forest in an advisory role for the Board of Directors. Members serve a term of 4 years. Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on a quarterly basis in the Parks Conference Room at the City Hall Annex Building.
