A Day of Service-A Day On, Not A Day Off

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission hosts the “2015 A Day of Service – A Day On, Not A Day Off” in Benton, Arkansas. This event will mark the observance of the congressionally legislated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a United States holiday marking the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King’s birthday, January 15, 1929.

On Monday, January 19, 2015, the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Com-mission (AMLKC) will hold the “Celebratory Component” of “A Day of Service – A Day On, Not A Day Off” at 10:00 AM at the Benton Events, which is located at 17322 Interstate 30, Benton, Arkansas 72019. Immediately following, the AMLKC will hold the “Service Component” of “A Day of Service – A Day On, Not Day Off” to feed the homeless and other worthwhile service activities such as health screenings, job counseling, and hygiene kits. “A Day of Service – A Day On, Not Day Off” is free and open to the public. Doors open at 8:30 AM. Program begins at 10:00 AM.

The Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission proudly presents legendary, Emmy Award-winning actor from the long-running hit daytime series, “The Young and The Restless” for King Holiday as the keynote speaker. Miss Arkansas 2014 Ashton Campbell will also make an appearance.

The Pocket Community Theatre presents a live performance of Baggage, a Comedy written by Sam Bobrick.

Two difficult, single people, Phyllis and Bradley, both trying to heal from their respective disappointing relationships, get their luggage mixed up at the airport. In trying to sort out this mix-up, they soon discover that baggage comes in many forms and is often not so easily sorted out.

Performances run from February 6 - 15, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m., and are rated PG-13 with mild adult themes. General admission is $10, through grade 12 is $5. Tickets are available at the door, cash or check only please. The Pocket Community Theatre is located at 170 Ravine Street, just off Park, at the intersection of Ramble and Ravine streets in downtown Hot Springs. Wheelchair accessible.
